The Allen Bradley 1388-AV20 is a Bulletin 1388 DC Servo Controller from the Drives Division in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. The catalog number on the nameplate reads 1388-AV20, with instruction manual reference 1388-5.0 and serial number 2000622. This open frame controller accepts a 120 volt, 3 phase, 50/60 Hz AC input rated at 10 amps, with a separate 34 volt VCT control transformer input at 1 phase, 50/60 Hz, 1.5 amps. Maximum RMS short circuit current is rated at 1600 amps. DC output is 150 volts at 20 amps continuous, delivering 1.5 kW of continuous power, with a minimum load inductance specification of 0.5 mH. The unit is built on power semiconductor technology and includes a complete PWM servo amplifier section, shunt regulator and power bus regeneration circuit, MOV protected input, line and DB contactor, RMS armature thermal overload detection, and an internal dynamic braking resistor. A tachometer voltage input range of 3 to 135 volts DC supports velocity feedback closure. An integrated cooling fan is mounted at the base of the chassis. The 1388 family is commonly found on legacy CNC machine tools, packaging equipment, and industrial automation lines that drive permanent magnet DC servo motors.
