Used in PLC-2, PLC-3, and PLC-5 programmable controller systems, the Allen-Bradley 1771-ASB is a universal remote I/O adapter module designed for rack-mount installation in 1771 series I/O chassis. The module operates at 5V DC with a backplane current draw of 1.2 amps and communicates with I/O scanner modules over a serial link at speeds up to 230.4 kilobits per second, supporting data transmission distances up to 10,000 cable-feet at 57.6K baud. The 1771-ASB supports all three I/O addressing modes including half-slot, one-slot, and two-slot configurations, and accepts any mix of 4, 8, 16, and 32-point I/O modules within the connected chassis. It is compatible with a total of 32 I/O adapter devices on a single I/O link and is wired using the 1771-WB wiring arm connector with Belden 9463 cable. Status indicators on the front face include Active, Adapter Fault, and I/O Rack Fault LEDs. The nameplate identifies this unit as Series A with Firmware Rev A. Terminal identification on the rear label references Line 1, Shield, and Line 2 connections for the remote I/O cable. This part number has been discontinued by the manufacturer. The module was removed from service and shows light cosmetic wear consistent with installed use.
