The Allen Bradley 1771-ASB/A is a universal remote I/O adapter module from the PLC 5 product family, designed to interface remote I/O chassis with PLC 2, PLC 3, and PLC 5 processors over Allen Bradley Remote I/O network. This Series A unit carries part number 1771-ASB and operates at 5 VDC with a backplane current draw of 1.2 A. The module installs in a 1771 series universal I/O chassis and communicates with the host processor at selectable data rates of 57.6, 115.2, or 230.4 kbps over twinaxial Belden 9463 blue hose cable. A single 1771-ASB can support up to one full chassis of 1771 series discrete and analog I/O modules and can be configured as either a full rack or partial rack adapter using DIP switch settings on the module. Field wiring connects through a 1771-WB swing arm or compatible terminal block. The 1771 Remote I/O Adapter Module line was officially discontinued by Rockwell Automation on December 31, 2017, making surplus units the primary source for legacy PLC 5 and Classic PLC system maintenance. This unit shipped from the Schneider Electric repair services group on job 091817 066 referencing PO A36460 for Alton Steel, Alton IL, and is supplied in its original Schneider sealed ESD bag with installation sticker and service contact label intact. Applications include steel mill control systems, paper mill drive controls, automotive assembly lines, and any installed base PLC 5 platform requiring legacy remote I/O scanning hardware.
