The Federal Signal L-240 is an electro-mechanical general alarm siren rated for 240VAC/DC operation, part of the long-running Model L series first introduced in 1946. It operates on a universal motor driving a ported aluminum rotor within a specially designed stator to produce a distinctive low-pitch tone suited to high-ambient-noise industrial environments. Rated output is 112 dBA at 10 feet and 122 dBA at 1 meter, with a current draw of 1.0 amp at 240/250V AC/DC. Series designation is A1.
The housing is constructed of steel with a red powder coat finish, providing corrosion resistance for indoor and outdoor installations. The enclosure is rated NEMA 3R. A swivel mount bracket accommodates wall and surface mount configurations. Certifications include UL Listed, cUL Listed, FM Approved, and CSA Certified. Recommended duty cycle per manufacturer documentation is five minutes on followed by five minutes off.
