This Giddings and Lewis Central Service Module, part number 501-04304-00 (OEM catalog equivalent 502-03418-00, M.1017.6011 series, REV-2), is a large-format CNC control processor board designed for use in Giddings and Lewis machine control systems including the G&L 8000 and 8000B NumeriPath CNC platforms. The board is densely populated with through-hole ICs, memory arrays, resistor networks, and discrete components across a green FR4 substrate. Two Ericsson PKA 2231 P DC/DC power modules are mounted onboard, providing regulated +5V, +12V, and -12V outputs. Three Panasonic lithium backup batteries are installed to maintain CMOS memory retention when main power is removed. Additional sub-boards visible include memory modules 502-52976-00 and 502-52977-00. An RTC (real-time clock) IC is present at position U63. Blue edge connectors and multiple internal bus connectors are visible. Serialized labels 169404 and 449604 are present on the board. The Central Service Module serves as a core computational and service resource within the G&L CNC control rack, managing system timing, memory, and inter-module communication. With the G&L 8000 control platform at end-of-life status per Fives, replacement central service modules are increasingly scarce and in demand by facilities maintaining legacy Giddings and Lewis horizontal boring mills and vertical turning centers.
