Used in Giddings and Lewis CNC machining centers and horizontal boring mills, the Processor Module with part number 501-03865-01 and assembly number 502-03061 is a full-size backplane-mounted circuit board assembly designed for the G&L 8000-series and related CNC control systems. The board is populated with TTL logic ICs including 74LS-series gates, 26LS30 and 26LS32 line drivers and receivers, MC68661 and MC6861 communication ICs, and a 8288 bus controller. PCB silkscreen identifies termination selection jumpers for TX, RTS, and DTR signals, indicating RS-232 serial communication interface functionality integral to the processor function. The board carries a gold-finger edge connector along both sides for direct backplane installation into the G&L control chassis. Two units are available, both carrying the same part number 501-03865-01 and the same assembly designation 502-03061. One unit carries serial reference 078001 and the other 305000 as visible on the board edge. Construction is through-hole on a multilayer fiberglass PCB with gold-plated edge connectors. The Giddings and Lewis 8000-series control platform was used extensively in large-format horizontal boring mills, vertical turning centers, and flexible machining systems produced during the 1980s and early 1990s.
