The Power Electronics International SM8A2L is a Smooth-Move 2 two speed reduced torque soft start control rated for 8 amps and a 200 to 460 VAC input range. The unit accepts a 115 VAC/VDC control voltage at the contactor coil input and is configured for 60 Hz operation per the box label. Designed for three phase AC induction motors, it supports applications including overhead cranes, hoists, trolleys, monorails, conveyors, overhead doors, bottling lines, and textile machinery. The unit ships with a finned aluminum heat sink and a DIN mount base, and the front housing is constructed from molded black plastic with screw type terminal blocks. Input terminals L1, L2, and L3 connect from the line VAC and power contactor, while output terminals T1, T2, and T3 feed the motor or motors. A separate five position terminal block labeled A, B, COM, LO, and HI accepts the contactor coil inputs that signal motor transitions to the controller. Three adjustment potentiometers labeled Accel, Decel, and Time provide independent control over initial starting torque, the transition torque between high and low speed, and the time required to reach full motor torque. The unit carries UL and cUL listing as Industrial Control Equipment under file 1L14.
