The Metrol T2002-01-09 is a precision touch sensor tool setter designed for use on CNC machining centers. Manufactured by Metrol Ltd. of Japan, this sensor provides automated tool length measurement, tool wear detection, and tool breakage detection inside the machine envelope. The T2002 series is part of Metrol's tool setter product line, which is supplied as standard equipment on a wide range of CNC machine tools from manufacturers including Mazak, Mori Seiki, Okuma, Brother, Makino, Matsuura, Kitamura, OKK, Enshu, Sugino, Toshiba Machine, Toyoda, and Yasda Precision Tools. The unit operates on an ON/OFF high precision touch principle, with the cutting tool making direct contact with the sensor contact surface to generate a skip signal for the CNC control. Built in precision bearings enable high speed measurement, and an overtravel signal is included to protect the sensor and spindle in the event of tool overshoot. The T2002 series is rated for use in environments exposed to coolant and chips. Application areas include CNC vertical machining centers, horizontal machining centers, and similar tool changing platforms where automated tool length compensation and broken tool detection are required during unattended operation.
