The Whittet-Higgins BL-24 is a Bearlok mechanical lock retaining nut used to adjust, pre-load, and secure bearings and other power transmission components to shafts and spindles. The assembly consists of a base nut, a compression ring, and socket head cap screws. The base nut has a thick-walled main body and a thin, externally tapered, slit rear section. When the cap screws are tightened, the ring is drawn against the tapered back of the nut, driving the rear sections radially inward to uniformly clamp the threads against the shaft.
Confirmed specifications per Whittet-Higgins published data include a 4.716 in. 12 TPI right hand UNS thread, a 6.500 in. outside diameter, a 5.430 in. face diameter, a 1.102 in. width, and a rated axial load capacity of 126,800 lbs. The unit uses M6 lock screws and is finished in manganese phosphate for corrosion resistance. The BL-24 replaces SKF AN24, standard AN24, and Taperline HTLN 24 PH and TLN 24 PH bearing locknuts.
This Bearlok meets and exceeds ANSI/AFBMA Standard 8.1 1986 and ISO 2982 specifications and is RoHS compliant. Typical applications include high speed and high precision rotating assemblies, balanced spindles, gearboxes, pumps, off road and mining equipment, and other power transmission systems where uniform 360 degree thread clamping and resistance to loosening under vibration, shock, and torque are required. The unit ships as a one piece kit in original Whittet-Higgins packaging, UPC 0751968102403, lot 87833.
