The NX5 designation indicates a 5:1 gear ratio, allowing a machine spindle running at up to 4,000 RPM input to drive the output spindle at up to 20,000 RPM. This makes the unit suitable for finish milling, engraving, and small-diameter drilling applications where standard spindle speeds fall short of optimal cutting parameters.

The tool collet system uses Nikken's proprietary SK10 format, accepting tools from 1.75 mm to 10 mm (0.069 to 0.394 in.) in diameter. The SK10 collet nut features a titanium nitride (TiN) coating rated at HV2,200 surface hardness, providing a high-grip, low-friction clamping interface compared to conventional ER systems. The output spindle is supported by four-point high-precision P4-grade bearings for accurate rotation at elevated speeds.

A body-mounted stopper pin and compatible positioning block (not included) are required to prevent body rotation during operation. Serial number K-100 is visible on the unit body.
